The word-of-the-year concept has hit critical mass, at least in my world. Everyone seems to be asking, “What’s your word for 2013?” In yoga class, on Facebook, in my email inbox, even at a recent coffee date. I’ve been mulling over several words and chose one to wear as a touchstone around my neck, courtesy of the beautiful creatrix Stacy de la Rosa and her Bella Wish jewelry.
(Isn’t it delicious?)
Yes, possibility. I’m sure I’ll write more about it as we flow into the year. I’ve seen all sorts of gorgeous words being claimed: integrity, harmony, magic, nourish, and one of my favorites, home. Each one such a specific touchstone around which to anchor intentions and actions for the months ahead. I’ll be exploring a word for each month, too.
But the year itself seems to have its own quality, its own anchoring quality in which we swim all through the days and months. I came to call 2012 the Quantum Year because of the accelerated shifting energy that took us all on such a roller coaster. Did you not feel it? My whiplash was somewhat severe. So much got cleared out of my life and my way…I have no complaints, but I died a thousand little deaths in the Quantum Year. So did many. So did our society. We’ve been making way.
As 2013 dawns, it whispers to me, “Rise.” Rise. Like the phoenix rising from the ashes, our deaths have prepared us for something entirely new. We are being called to rise to our greater selves. To our greater nature. To the challenges ahead – economic, social, and political structures that simply do not work anymore and need to be brought through the death/rebirth cycle. I don’t know exactly what’s in store for us, but I have no doubt the Rising Year will deliver. And I’m ready to rise. How about you?

I read this when you first wrote it and wanted to cogitate on it for awhile. I think my word is going to be “send.” It seems silly, but I know my biggest problem is I just don’t send my writing out enough, so I want to push myself to do more of that. I know I will receive more rejections, but maybe I’ll get more acceptances too.
